Frequently Asked Questions

How do I best care for my salad greens when I get Home?

Greens (lettuce heads, swiss chard, kale, spinach, choi, etc.) can last a good two weeks if properly cared for. If bunched remove elastic band then wash, dry, and store in a large sealed bag to maintain humidity in the fridge. A salad spinner is your best friend! All of our greens are washed and dried on the farm but completing this step at home and even allowing the greens to soak for a few minutes in cold water on especially hot days will rehydrate them for the crispest salad experiences. For more info on what to do when you get your vegetables home check out our "veggie care" post on the Recipes page.

What are the best flowers I can plant to encourage humming birds to visit my garden?

Humming birds love tube shaped flowers including Bee Balm, Salvia, and Nicotiana

Is a green tomato under ripe?

While there are plenty of recipes calling for actual under ripe green tomatoes (great for the end of the season when your plants are still producing but there is a heavy rainstorm or early frost in the forecast), our Cherokee Green and Green Zebra Heirloom tomatoes are perfectly ripe when they are as lime green as you can imagine. Once you have tasted a slab of the fruity Cherokee Green tomato layered on a slice of toasted bread with goat cheese all of your doubts will melt away.
